If I start Xvnc before I start a normal X session on my Linux system, I
get an error message suggesting suspicious ownership of the .X11-unix
directory. Since I run Xvnc as a normal user, that directory belongs to
me. So I tried to set uid and gid to root for Xvnc so it runs as root.
Then when it creates the directory it sets the mode to 444 and X says it
has suspicious permissions. Each time X gives up and I can't bring X up
unless I shutdown Xvnc, bring up X and then shut it down. I can't run
xdm because for some reason when I log off, the system hangs up tighter
than a drum. I want to start Xvnc at boot time and pretty much leave it
running. I also would like to occasionally bring X up on the console.

Is there a suggested fix for this problem?

THanks,
Jim.
