I don't want to have HTML replies coming here. With thousands of subscribers, that would use a lot more bandwidth, however, I propose something that would probably benefit all parties.
Why not have a web page with the way you describe for navigation. Still get the digest list, but at the top of the digest mail, have a URL that people can use to view the digest in its HTML form from the web site HTML was designed for web pages, not emails.
