Hello Julien,

We have no "Official" benchmarks on the GATE as of yet, so I'll let the program manager respond in my stead.

I will say this though, technical/hardware will obviously limit you but when you have a license for X amount of users, it is that amount who can go through gate (not a good description that's why I'm asking Daniel Roy to add in :-).

>Is it necessary to use modus LS to load balance this gateway or can I load balance modus Entreprise as well (this could mean I should maintain two servers instead of one virtual >one ??) ? I need to have a redundant architecture...
*Ouchie, no you won't be able to run the gate on the same server as your modusmail/vopmail since it uses the same ports and putting it on the same machine would multiply the load on your server 5 fold. You'll notice that even when modusmail/gate deal with a lot of traffic, the cpu usage is not extreme, it very often could be a result of the drives that assign for the spool that are slowing things down. So, my recommandation, set aside a RAID0 or other (not 5) just for the spools as this is where all the 'magic' happens. Meaning, scanning, verification, anti spam etc... Yep, definitly RAID.

Hope this answers you a bit

* the modusgate is not simply a software that scans and therefore cannot be simply placed on an existing server but must be set on another server on it's own which will relay through all the mail

Thank you

Subject: [VOPmail Beta] antivirus gateway...

Hello Charles the Gladiator :)

I guess the best solution to filter e-mail is a dedicated gateway... It can also lower the cpu/network load on our vopmail servers (by using the rbl function on the gateway for example).

I just discover modusGate "LS"... it looks great. When you say "20.000 users" about modusGate Service Provider, is it a per user license or is a technical limitation of what a mono-processor PIII can do ? Any idea of how many e-mails modus Enterprise can filter on a per day basis ?

Is it necessary to use modus LS to load balance this gateway or can I load balance modus Entreprise as well (this could mean I should maintain two servers instead of one virtual one ??) ? I need to have a redundant architecture...
Best regards,
Julien

Objet : [VOPmail Beta] do you know MailScan ?

Hello Julien,

Definitly 'Modus' would be the way to go (nudge, nudge, wink wink). Here's the link that Jim was talking about http://www.ingconnect.com/antivirus/
but if your are more than 'small' you may definitly require something more effective such as our modusmail or our modusgate.

Thank you!

yeah, thats pretty expensive if you have a lot of mailboxes.. Nice if you only have a small number.  If you have lots, it would probably be more economical to run your own scanning system (modusMail).  Also, the mailagent system works pretty well and is free.  Ask here for a link to it, I forgot where its at.

Hi,

do you use or did you test MailScan for VOPMail ?

However, it looks quite expensive ($3 / mailbox / year) :(((
