Same here (and users do get upset when they think someone else locally
spammed them).  In our case the 'from' address was another valid user (was
your from address a valid address in the past?).  From what I've seen the
spammers are just ordering their lists by domain and picking one of the
addresses to be the 'from' address, thus making it more likely to be treated
as real mail.  Nice eh?

I've contemplated adding code to my spam filter to limit the addresses user
who claim to be 'local' can connect from to those of my network and any
backup servers I use (unless they use SMTP auth or POPb4drop).  That would
break any of my users sending thru Earthlink or their local ISP (I'm a mail
provider, not an ISP).  I also considered doing this but based on netblocks,
and just start blocking the addresses as we see them (but only for the from
local sendint to local case)
