I hear ya. Hence the reason for the
Acct-Delay-Time http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2866.txt?number=2866 attribute. This is because the Internet, the
NASs, the bazillion proxies and everything to and fro are unreliable. I
guess I was saying "do a traceroute" see where they are, run a thousand pings,
see what the packet loss is, figure it out..but without a doubt, make sure that
the upstream wholesaler has a decent proxy
infrastructure.
I
have to respectfully disagree with you Eric. We have seen these issues where
the Radius servers on both ends are sitting on TOP NOTCH
connections.

Ask Vircom to provide and option to disable Concurrent usage
enforcement while still maintaining port-limits and
timebanks.
Regarding STOP records, there is no reason to be missing STOP
records. We also wholesale Qwest, UUNET, Aleron, Broadwing, Megapop,
O1.... and we have no issues with STOP records. It comes down to where
does your wholesaler host their radius proxies. We host in Qwest
and UUNET datacenters so there is not packet loss. If a
wholesalers hangs their radius off a DSL line in a closet, then there will
be issues. If you have your radius server not on a top-tier ISP
network, you will experience the same.
I have seen this problem with all the wholesale networks that I
have worked with. Radius Accounting packets are not a priority to
wholesalers. They want you to have simultaneous logins and customers
stuck in radius so they can charge you more. I did some work for
CISP, who is a large wholesale aggrator for UUNet, Sprint, Qwest and about
a half a dozen others. They had to turn off simultaneous login checking
and some other features of Steele belted radius because of these
issues. We figured out that we only got 1 out of 8 watchdog packets
and 1 out of 15 Stop packets.

Thing is, this seems to be a problem with a lot of wholesale
networks. Honestly, I think you will have the same problem wherever you
go. Stop packets don't seem to be a priority so to speak, in fact I
think they use UDP which means the packets are not even guaranteed to
get to their destination. Read the info on Vircom's site about Watchdog
packets.. I think we tried implementing this but it did not help. It's
been a while so I don't remember if we actually did it or not. Might be
worth a try. I think the watchdog packet thing will only work if it's
supported by the NAS but don't quote me.

I remember a little while ago on
this list i seen some postings about issues
with DialUp USA and
Vircom. We appear to not be recieveing stop
packets...Causing alot
of issues with Vircom.
Is there anyone else out there having
problems proxying through DUSA? Or
any other issues with DUSA?
Vircom and DUSA don't appear to be working
good
together. Does anyone have any advice or
feedback?
