A decade ago, an ultra-efficient heat pipe was making the rounds, and getting 
some funding. DoD was interested as was NASA and some money went into it.  See:

But AFAIK the Qu tube tech, if there was anything to it, did not make a 
commercial or military impact and Dr. Qu disappeared back to China. But not 
before the report above concluded that the Qu Tube showed high thermal 
conductivity, with lower bounds as determined by the fin equation on the order 
of 10,000 to perhaps 30,000 times that of copper. Not bad.

Fast forward many years - the following appears on Revolution-Green and appears 
to offer a theoretical foundation for the earlier claims.
Maybe DoD turned it into a black project but how do you weaponize a heat pipe?
