The help page you pointed us to is about turning off web history, I just found 
that about turning off personalized results:

http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?answer=54048&topic=10476

They just suggest to sign out, not very helpful, never mind at least it works, 
and signing out and in is not much trouble if you have checked the "remember 
me" box.
