They are 6061 Aluminum tubes to provide some magnetic shielding
between the middle stator magnet and the other two.  Al called the
Judson after his high school for some odd reason.

You can see the effect when he moves the two outside stator magnets
and the rotor moves.  But when he moves the middle one, it doesn't
react as much.

Al claims the dampers make the stator magnets more stable.  We shall
see since some are replicating without the "Judson" dampers.
