The LoT is IMO easily defeated (at least in appearance as it is impossible to ever solve the question absolutely) when the aether is correctly conditioned.
The aether is the medium of all matter and energy and if you engineer it's state you can change the rules, if you change the board on which matter and energy plays the game you can change all the rules.
