"Megalith" is a charged word around here :) Since it sounds so reminiscent of the opening scenes of Kubrick's 2001. A mysterious black megalith somehow induces what will be the "seed" of emergent creative intelligence in proto-humans via three visual metaphors: tool-making, domination of animals, and eventually war with other tribes. If you missed the poignancy of that metaphor, it is worth a trip to Blockbuster, as this is probably the most thought-provoking 15 minutes to come out of Hollywood . ever. Now . does that bizarro comment have any relevance at all to advanced uses of calcium carbonate in alternative energy? Possibly, but if you are looking for Casimir cavities, there are probably far better choices from nature (or rather from altering nature) than mere limestone.
