In what was otherwise a disappointing demo (due to the missing four hours of the scheduled 12)... and which would have made all the difference between success - and the 'yawner' that we are stuck with ... there is one lingering issue.
This 'mystery device,' aka a frequency generator, could be a new development which is more important that realized... even a breakthrough. Here are the possibilities: Axil > Does anybody know if the frequency generator(I am assuming a 50 watt microwave source) was powered and functioning all throughout the self-sustaining phase of the Rossi demo.... This seems to be something new in the Rossi design and may be how the self-sustaining mode was engineered. Jouni Valkonen > It does seem that frequency generator is not necessary, but it certainly boosts the output power. When it was initialized when the main input power was reduced to zero, output power jumped from 3 kW to 6 kW although electric power was reduced by 2.7 kW. Andrea Selva > I think that this "frequency generator" is just the usual blue box holding the dimmers array that power the heating resistors. Horace > ... could be simply due to a slug of hot water, pumped out due to reduced boiling rate, heating up the Tout thermometer via the metal to which it is held. IOW - this device (or lack of one) could either be a mundane thermal excursion, a typical mad-man's diversion, or a real 'sleeper' breakthrough which has pushed the E-Cat towards the level where the inventor now has more confidence. Given Rossi's string of failures in the most recent demos in Bologna (most of them under-reported but known to insiders) and now this one with all of the heated controversy, and given that this would have been a clear success if it had run longer ... and given Rossi's curious refusal to even invent a story for this "frequency generator" device (as he usually does)... well it makes the identity of it worth further comment, and maybe a closer look at how it could benefit the situation. The low current draw indicates that it is NOT a magnetron, but microwaves are not ruled out. The blue box should only have drawn about one tenth the power when the dimmers are off, so there is 'something else' in there, or elsewhere. It could have been mundane, but would Rossi not have said so? One real possibility is a high voltage device. An air coil transformer, like a small Tesla core is not ruled out, and this fits with the current draw and with other possibilities. Are there any close-up pictures of the what would be a silicone high-voltage, high-temperature lead? This is rather thick specialty wire, when it must resist both high temperature and carry high voltage internally. There are only a few suppliers. High voltage low current input to the nanopowder opens up a number of possibilities which no one has paid much attention to in the past, since obviously there has been no mention of it from either the patent, the observers, or from Rossi himself. I would hate to think that everything in the past 10 months of the Rossi story has been contingent on a secondary breakthrough, but that possibility cannot be ruled out. Has Rossi been 'winging it' all along? Jones
