During the discussion about the first TIP, at energikatalysatorn there was a huge stir about the applicability of using a heat camera to validate the output energy until a heat camera expert enter the discussion and although he was skeptical of the final result, said and explained thoroughly that the camera did a fine job at a COP of matters. Isn't it so that Brian is dealing with much lower COP so that finer instrument is needed. Anyway I agree with Jed that we should try to dig out technical info in the discussions. Alumina was not used in TIP 1, right! and there the COP was positive as well. What can have hapend however is that rossi experimented and optimized the coating and get slightly fooled by this effect, but it explaining the whole COP would be amazing. Also I looked at the picture of the hot cat and especially the upper profile you can see the profile of the finns in essentially the same color as the body e.g. the temperature of the surface looks to be pretty much the same as any speculative tranlucent light so even if there is some translucency I would be surprised if it had any great effect.
