ryan, i'm not extremely familiar with this chipset, but i was under the impression that official patches to the xfree86 cvs were *just* added a few weeks ago.
a quick search on deja yielded something similar to your problem: The only problem is, that if I switch to graphic-mode, I have to turn off the monitor (Fn+F5). If X is started, I can switch on the Monitor again. If I want to get back to the text modus, its the same again does that help? if you're not using 4.2.*, you may want to try upgrading (not familiar with mandrake either, sorry). pete begin Ryan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > > what chipset? which laptop? > > Compaq Armada V300, ATI Rage Mobile (Don't know exactly, if you tell me how > to look it up I will) > > > are you using a frame buffer console? if so, try using a real console. > > maybe the chipset is breaking under a change of graphics context. > > I don't think so, I'm not sure, It's whatever mandrake 8.0 is using by > default, again, i'm not sure how to find out. > > > pete > > > > > > begin Ryan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > > > Hash: SHA1 > > > > > > My video card keeps breaking and getting me stuck in graphical mode at > > > random when switching back to X from a tty, forcing me to reboot.
