Thanks for all of the help so far. I just ran as root in both RW and RO
modes:
lsof /
the resultant lists of files had FD's of one of the following:
mem
txt
cwd
rtd
I saw no files with 3w as a descriptor. I'm obviously missing something,
aren't I? Is there a way to narrow results based on the FD?

descriptor - if its opened for writing it should say something like 3w
