No this is not true.  This is what rumour does to fact.

This is true for all removable drives.

If you have a removable drive and the RDB parameters are the same on the
removable carts, then you can remove one cart and when the next cart is
inserted the Amiga OS will recognize the new cart.

If the carts are different, say you remove a 100MB zip and insert a 250MB zip
then the Amiga OS will not recognize the cart.  You will have to either reboot
or use a utility like SCSIMounter to dismount the old cart and mount the new
cart.

This works the same whether you are running one of the older 80MB Syquests,
newer 270MB Syquests, ORBs or Zip drives.  So for some people it is just
easier to only use one partition on all the carts so the carts will be
recognized as they are removed and inserted.
