I had problems getting bookmarks to work back in pre3 or something so I installed
Contact Manager but without having registered it. My bookmarks started to work and I
still haven't registered Contact Manager and have no plans to do so since I don't use
it at all. It just sits on my harddisk so that my bookmarks work.
So no, you don't need to register Contact Manager to make the bookmarks work.
But I don't know if an installed (but not neccessarily registered) Contact Manager is
a must to make bookmarks work.
