This is all part of MUI's font fallback "feature" when you're running
stuff on a screen size that's too small. It almost always falls back
to using Helvetica. Personally I find that more of an annoyance than
a feature. That font is ugly, IMHO.
I tried "hiding" the Helvetica font files like you did, but I found
that some programs won't run AT ALL without it being available. One
of the versions of Voyager was like that, but I don't remember which.

That's not surprising. I wish that goofy font fallback could be
"fixed" somehow.
