The Amiga crashes because the programs are not handling low memory properly. 
It doesn't have to be the browsers (but most likely is) - if something else
does something in the background which fails due to low memory, then that will
take the machine down too.

It would work, and may help.  With Voyager and FBlit it would certainly help
if it can be made to run reliably.  The problem is that you can't create
swappable chip memory, so programs not capable of caching images in fast won't
do much with it.

There is a free alternative to GigaMem on Aminet, called VMM.  Try it out, it
might just work.
