Some don't, true. But then the connection progress bars tend to be
blank then, which is not a problem.

Never seen that! :-0

Anyway, this is not the problem.  Try, for example, Amazon Books (I
imagine its the same whichever country, but I used amazon.co.uk).  Go
to a book and click on its image to "download a larger image". My
download window shows "View with Multiview: 12345 (total size
unkown)", whereas clicking on the connection lights shows the progress
bar for that connection moving to the right. ie: V *does* know the
total file size, but is not displaying it in the download window.

Contrast doing a "Download As" on an Aminet file, where the download
window will say "..... 12345 of 123456 (10%)".

I tried playing with the MIME prefs, but couldn't change it. :-/
