Hi Jules,
It looks like I did not get my point across, if you had some trouble
with it. I must have misworded some of it; so, let me see if I can get
things straight, now.
First, I do not see anything wrong with going with a better filesys-
tem for the Amiga. I agree that if a better filesystem will help all
round, then, why not get it and use it? I was not referring to THAT
aspect when I spoke of a "Red Herring." I also agree that there can
never (most likely NEVER) be an ideal browser because of all the dif-
ferent functions it has to do at the same time, regardless of the com-
puter system for which it is designed and on which it is being used,
Amiga, MS Windows/Intel, Mac/PPC, Mainframe, whathaveyou. Therefore,
having a filesystem which will be hard to get destroyed by a sudden
system crash, is a BIG plus. This is why I had said I intend getting
one of the newer, more stable filesystems for the Amiga.
My calling this a "Red Herring," was because some talked about getting
this new stable filesystem as though it were the fix for the fact that V
is crashing the computer and sometimes corrupting the drives, so ignore
the problem with V and just get the filesystem! You are referring to
the use of the filesystem the same way I perceive it: as a way to have
a more stable computer, overall, period. The other slant was not stating
this.
My restating my questions was because no one who had worked on V,
bothered to even enumerate some of the reasons V does such a crash rou-
tine. After all, AWeb has also crashed, but it does not seem to take
the whole computer with it by forcing the computer to revalidate the
harddrive that has the Cache files of the browser. This thing that V
does makes no sense to me, which is why I posed the question and why,
until I get some intelligle answer, I will have to refrain from using
it, because I do not want to take a chance that I might lose everything
I have on my harddisks. (I do back things up and I can regenerate most,
but it is a pain in the neck and butt.)
I hope the above makes my point clearer.
'til next time.
Julian.
