Sorry, matt, but I have to disagree. When I was playing about testing
IE5 when we discussed α and all that, I made typing errors where
I forgot the semicolon, and IE did not convert &bull or &beta without
the semicolon.
I think the detail of this behaviour needs to be looked at more
carefully before globally abandoning correct standards. Maybe some
confusion is creeping in because, IIRC, the "#" character is used with
position-on-page anchor tags.
