Agreed. Matt, what is this list for? We report
and discuss problems. If the popular opinion
doesn't reflect your own, throwing a tantrum will
not help. If you put yourself in a position of
semi-official spokesman, you need to listen to
others.
I have no concise evidence concerning this
behaviour. However, I have tried IE5 on WinNT
(sorry, I don't have access to anything else).
FYI both "&num" and "#" are NOT converted to
anything. Both "•" and "α" require the
semicolon, but "&" and "<" work with or
without. These also work within links.
The point being, it isn't consistent. If you are
going to adopt the "copy IE behaviour" principle,
you will have to look in more detail than you
appear to have done so far.
