If you have an existing system using syslog you need to integrate with then 
sure syslog is the answer. ;-)

First suggestion is as I mentioned earlier, if you are doing this with a CGN 
you should probably look at deterministic NAT to avoid logging altogether.
Otherwise you do have some new stuff that might be interesting like Kafka.

Or we could consider getting data out of VPP in some VPP specific way across 
shared memory / memif's and then have an external agent converting that format 
to whatever external representation you want.

Long story short, two thoughts in head at the same time, nothing against 
syslog, let's give that a try! :-)
