If vtcl ever gets to the point of being more useful, supported, and
documented I think it would be very useful.

I don't have access to a development system right now.  I've been using
that answer for much too long; on the other hand, my life at home is
not getting better...

There is - it's called suntar .  See the Info-Mac archives for it.
