Actually, I've gotten back into vtcl, with the intent of helping do just
this thing, eventually. 'course, I'm still a newbie, and it is still a
very-much-in-development project, but little by little...

The first example of my pursuit of this was the tab-key question I
posted awhile back. vtcl is great, but (particularly when I use it on
Windows 95,) there are focusing issues. Also, you can't operate the
main menus directly using the keyboard. For instance, pressing alt-F
does not bring up the "file" menu, as it does on almost all Windows
programs, and there are no underlines indicating shortcut keys. I
haven't learned how to make these things happen yet, but I'd like to.

I should point out that I *do* understand the difficulties involved in
programming for the keyboard in windowing environments--I have to do it
all the time when I write code, particularly for VB. This is because
people in business environments who do data-entry may very well not want
to mess with mice, especially when they are under pressure to produce a
lot of output, and/or when they must do telephone work at the same time.
A slip with the mouse can also be much more destructive than a slip
with the keyboard, especially when "drag-and-drop" are available. My
personal gripes about mice notwithstanding.

Final point: I am suspicious that Microsoft did not make an effort to
support the keyboard heavily and intuitionally merely for their health.
Part of the reason I have made my views on this issue known publicly is
that I believe good, unified keyboard support across the two platforms
would be a boon to Linux and X, especially in these production
environments.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox. I know such a project is somewhat
daunting, but I have a special interest in seeing it through. I have to
focus most of my energy on my day job, but I will do everything I can!
:)
