I checked the page for the entry widget, but your explanation is
somewhat better. I apologize for my haste: I didn't realize that man
pages for tcl/tk even existed on my system, but they are here and I have
begun studying them.

Yes, this is my problem. See below for clarification...

No, I need the entry boxes. The application is a front-end for a little
program which applies a channel vocoder to a selected wavefile. The
command-line syntax runs so:

  vocoder <modulating WAV> <carrier WAV> <chunk_length> <chunk_overlap>
<band_count> <output WAV>

So there are three separate soundfiles indicated, and I'd like the user
to be able to play any one of them at any time (calling vplay). I need
to pass to vplay the currently selected wavefile, whichever that might
be.

Actually, thinking about it, I can see where the listbox approach might
be fine for the existing soundfiles, but I still need to indicate the
active selection, one of which (the output WAV) will not be present in a
listbox. Am I being too muddy here ? I also need to know how to do this
for another application front-end which is considerably more complicated
(but your listbox advice should work for some parts of that one).

Yes, that's the one. All of them run between $40 and $50 US, which a
chunk of change for me, but I'm definitely feeling the need to have a
reference handy.

Thank you ! Wow, that's quite the resource, exactly what I needed.
Hopefully now you folks won't hear from me for a while...<g>

And yes, the 'welcome' would be a fine thing, very helpful.

Thanks to all for your patience and suggestions. Luck to you all !
