Subject: Middle East Brown Bag -- Nov. 19

The Middle East program is sponsoring a brown-bag lunch event on November 19.  Two Palestinian students (actually, one student and one recent graduate) will present on recent events in Palestinian community and the occupied territories.  The event will be from 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM in the Jost Seminar Room, A-500 of Old Mill.  Short biographies of the two students are below.

Samah Atoot graduated with a Bachelor's in administration from Al Najah
University in Nablus, Palestine.  She has been volunteering in her community
for over nine years and works on a variety of youth, refugee, and
educational programs.  She co-founded  and manages "Project Hope Country,"
an organization geared toward providing educational, artistic, and emotional
growth for young children  (http://www.palhope.net).  Moreover, she has also
been a leader at the Zajel Youth Exchange Program, a summer camp in Nablus
that also provides educational and cultural opportunities for Palestinian
youth.  Ms. Atoot was also part of a Palestinian speaking  tour which
visited various locations throughout the United Kingdom, including
Manchester, Liverpool, and London, in the summer of 2003.
Ubai Abudi is a student at Birzeit University in Ramallah, Palestine, and is
studying economics.  He founded Birzeit's Debate Society and is currently
working to organize delegations of Palestinian students to speak about their
experience abroad.  Mr. Abudi also leads and facilitates cross-cultural
dialogue and discussion among international volunteers in the hope of
increasing awareness and understanding of different perspectives regarding
the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
