The following item is from the SEAC e-mail list. I apologize if this is known to everyone. It would have been nice to have known about this earlier, but in the no doubt unlikely event that Halper could still make it to Vermont and that it would be practical to have him, I'm sure it would be worthwhile.
Walter _________________________________________ ********************************************** I have known Professor Jeff Halper, via mail and phone, for many years. Then a couple of years ago Carole and I went to hear him at Brandeis University in Waltham. MA. He is a dedicated peace activist and an excellent speaker. He also appeared in a 30-second TV spot produced and sponsored by Justice First Foundation last year. I'm delighted that he will be in Connecticut and Rhode Island in March. The following schedule is from Hassan Fouda. Rod Please make every effort to attend some of the events. More importantly, please invite all your contacts, neighbors, co-workers, church/ synagogue, and mosque group etc. to attend. Fouda ([ mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]) 860-536-4640 ---- Jeff Halper Bio Jeff Halper is the Coordinating Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD). In that capacity, he has forged a new mode of Israeli peace activity based on nonviolent direct action and civil disobedience to the Israeli Occupation. Through its resistance to the demolition of Palestinian homes and other manifestations of the Occupation, including the rebuilding of demolished homes as acts of political solidarity, ICAHD has developed a relationship of trust and close cooperation with Palestinian organizations. Believing that civil society and governmental forces must be mobilized if a just peace is to emerge in Israel/Palestine, Jeff also directs ICAHD's extensive program of international advocacy. His popular book Obstacles to Peace is to be followed by a forthcoming work: An Israeli in Palestine: Reframing the Israel-Palestine Conflict (Pluto Press). In addition to his three decades of involvement with the Israeli peace movement since coming to Israel from the US, Jeff has been active on issues of social justice within Israel and has written extensively on Israeli society. A Professor of Anthropology who has taught at Haifa and Ben Gurion Universities (as well as heading the international Friends World College), he is the author of Between Redemption and Revival: The Jewish Yishuv in Jerusalem in the Nineteenth Century (Westview, 1991). For ten years, he worked in Jerusalem's inner-city neighborhoods where he helped initiate the Ohel social protest movement of working-class Mizrahi Jews. He has also served as the Chairman of the Israeli Committee for Ethiopian Jews. Defining himself as an "engaged anthropologist," Jeff believes that a combination of resistance on the ground, a grounded analysis of the conflict, advocacy among the Israeli public, campaigns to mobilize international public opinion and joint efforts with solidarity groups throughout the world will bring an end to the Occupation and a just a sustainable peace to the region. ===== Hassan Fouda ------------------------ Yahoo!
