An Olive on the Seder Plate is a multi-media performance about how progressive Jews wrestle with the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This “Passover spiel” features the talents of over a dozen Jewish musicians, performers, educators and activists. The performance presents the history and politics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a collection of Jewish voices, and speaks to a wide spectrum of audience members. While the show challenges the policies behind the occupation, it consistently approaches issues from multiple perspectives, and addresses Jewish concerns of anti-Semitism. Drawing from the rich canon of political theater, this multi-media piece includes shadow puppetry, contastoria, interview theater, and video collage, as well as original and traditional Jewish music. This show is a creative, innovative, and much-needed contribution to continuing peace & solidarity work in Jewish communities and beyond.
