Okay, humbly I have to admit embarrassment over this problem so far less
complex than the ones I read here. Am brand new to Vyatta, and it has
been six years since I did any hands-on router wrangling.
Application is to isolate two file servers. Static routes are required
(ancient history for me). While the Vyatta router can ping everything,
traffic does not transverse the Vyatta router. The Vyatta firewall is
not enabled, as far as I can determine with my knowledge of the CLI. At
least, I have not enabled it.
Specifics are below. If anyone can tell me how to remedy this, I would
be greatly appreciative, as 3 days behind schedule on this project.
PROBLEM: File Servers cannot PING Edge Router : Static route hole in
Vyatta
Description:
1. Static Routes: [EMAIL PROTECTED]>show route
0.0.0.0/0 [static(1)] > to 192.168.100.1 via eth0
127.0.0.1/8 [connected(0)] > to 127.0.0.1 via lo
172.16.16.0/24 [connected(0)] > to 172.16.16.1 via eth1
172.16.17.0/24 [connected(0)] > to 172.16.17.1 via eth2
192.168.100.0/24 [connected(0)] > to 192.168.1.2 via eth0
2. From [EMAIL PROTECTED]
All pings successful to edge router and to file servers on directly
connected interfaces.
3. From File Server 0 AND File Server 1, can ping successfully
Vyatta eth1 - 172.16.16.1
Vyatta eth2 - 172.16.17.1
Vyatta eth0 - 192.168.100.1
4. Neither File Server can ping the other OR the Edge Router
5. The Edge Router can ping
the directly connected eth0 interfacs on Vyatta
can NOT ping the Vyatta eth1 or eth2 interfaces
hence cannot ping the file servers
can ping the directly connected workstation
6. The Workstation can ping the Vyatta eth0 @ 192.168.100.1 through the
Edge Router
