Ray,

I've been using waist-high neoprene waders for years, and find them great for the salt.  The neoprene is warmer without resorting to fleece pants or long johns, and the fact that they are shorter allows me to cast comfortably when wearing coat and rain jacket without that confined feeling when wearing regular bib waders.   It also lets my upper body air out so I don't smell like a wet, moldy sweat sock when I'm done.  (Just a sweat sock.)  On a sunny day it is cooler and more comfortable than the bib waders.  With a boot foot, its easy to walk and easy on and easy off.  I find there are only a few times that I would want to wade deeper.  The only problem is those underwater drop-offs you can't see.  But that's going to happen no matter what you wear.  They're great in open boats, too.
