The weridest thing Ive ever seen was I caught a trout that had what looked like a beetle attached to its inner jaw. It was just inside the teeth, so he was 'safe', but had a death grip that made it so the trout couldnt move his tongue. I assumed he had been this way for awhile because the beetle had a flat side on his top where the roof of the trouts mouth hit. And the way the trout took the fly, the hook was about 1/2 inch back and hooked on the roof.
I used my hemos to attempt and remove the beetle whole. It was not to be, the body came free, but the legs remained (Death Grip). Cleaned him out, and sent him on his way. Since then, I keep telling myself to throw a disposable waterproof camera in the waders for things like that... More for "What is this thing, and is it killing my favorite water?"
