With a stout heart and hopes to float we went to the Sauk yesterday.  It was too cold. The river at Darrington looked like a slushy.  We bank fished White Creek where the water temperature was a super cooled 30.3 Fahrenheit and this was a calibrated thermometer.  Needless to say, de nada.  We also fished the mouth of the Suiattle but nothing.  In search of warmer water, we went back to the Stilly where it was positively balmy at 33.9.  We fished a couple of spots and finally coaxed a desultory 5 lb hatchery fish w/ an egg suckin’ leech.  I think it was looking for a warm home. I know I was.
