Thanks Shay,
I downloaded a Mac 'alpha test codec' from that site. Unfortunately it did nothing,
but now for some reason when I opened an avi, quicktime prompted for 'Indeo
video' from the quicktime site. I downloaded it and it now works. Happy days.

Do you know how to play other formats downloaded from the net with the 'exe'
extension?

.exe files are PC executables, and you can't run them without a PC or a PC emulator (such as Virtual PC). They may just be executables wrapped around a movie you could play otherwise (if it wasn't wrapped in the executable), but extracting the movie is probably somewhat difficult. They might be standalone Flash players, in which case you might be able to open them with something that can play Flash content, but I don't like your chances.

Have fun,
Shay
