Hello Jim,
I have been cataloguing photographic images via databases for the past 17
years. Initially this entailed developing a cataloguing methodology as well
as a database. The current cross-platform version of each is freely
available as a PDF and accompanying FileMaker runtime solution file at the
address below.
One word of caution though is to "link" any images rather than the default
"embedding" as the latter blows out the size of the database very quickly
resulting in slow performance and potential crashing.
Should you have any further questions please feel free to ask.
cheers,
Douglas

Subject: Cataloguing issues

Here in Murdoch we are getting students to label high-quality colour
images of museum specimens as an exercise in learning Anatomy.
Ultimately when corrected we want to make these available for all to
study, probably via a CD that the students can purchase rather than
via the WWW (too easy to steal!). The issue is how to catalogue them
and have a searchable data base. My immediate response was FileMaker
Pro (we have FMP 4.0) , but I wonder if anyone has a better solution?
