Hi All,
At the last WAMUG meeting, I asked a question about my new iMac. Sometimes,
the mouse freezes when you click on something, and you have to power off and
then power on again.
How frequently does it happen? Once a day, once an hour, every
minute? Does the keyboard still work when it happens?
I've tried unplugging all other USB devices except for the printer, keyboard
and mouse.
Are you using a hub? Does this make any difference? Sometimes USB
issues can be traced back to a power issue with one or more devices.
So, here are my questions:
1. Does anyone know for sure if there's a hardware issue, and if so, is
there some reference that you can quote me so that I can tell them the next
time I ring.
Try searching the Apple tech-info archives.
3. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do next? I really like
the machine, but it's a $3.5k lemon if it keeps freezing on me. I am
tempted to return it for an exchange or refund.
It might be one of your USB devices misbehaving (printer, keyboard,
or mouse). Try unplugging the printer, and see if that fixes things:
If it does, it could be that your printer, USB cable, drivers, or hub
(if you have one) are faulty.
If it doesn't, it could still be your keyboard or mouse. You can try
unplugging one or the other to see if that fixes it, or testing with
someone else's keyboard and/or mouse (assuming you know someone who
can part with them for a while).
Basically switch your USB devices around, and see if you can figure
out whether one of them is causing the problem.
