Hi all,

all ANZ customers should be made aware that there is a very clever
scam via email asking you to reactive your account by taking you to
https//anz.com instead of http//anz.com

Actually, the scam uses HTML e-mail to show you a link to anz.com instead of the actual address it links to http://64.46.114.91/ (now shut down thankfully).

https://anz.com and http://anz.com are the same site as each other, just using different protocols (https instead of http).

Another great reason not to use HTML in e-mail.

Also now that unicode domain names are available it's possible for people to register domain names which despite having the same glyphs (visible character shapes) actually point to different servers. That's really going to be fun once people start exploiting it.

Basically, if you didn't type or bookmark the URL yourself, you may not be able to trust it anymore :(

Have fun,
Shay
