oh and, I have deleted the printer and added again, not only deleted
from printer set up, deleted fully from computer then reloaded printer
from old backup. I will try the plist and see if that does anything

it was possible to have borders as part of Standard!
For reference, your presets are stored in
$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
(There are also some locations where Apple or other vendors can store
their factory presets.)
You might like to either delete the aforementioned plist file or try
this (just guessing):
- Go to System Preferences
- Choose Print & Fax
- Click Set Up Printers...
- Delete the printer and re-add it
