Hi Gordon,
I bought a 12V DC to 240V AC converter from a car shop that is rated
at 300 W, for about $60 on special - smaller one would do you. The
advantage of this is that it will power other household type
appliances as well as the iBook eg small TVs, DVDs, toothbrush
whatever.
A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THESE Types of devices .
In order to convert from Battery Direct Current ( DC )
they will use a transistorised device to " flip / flop "
the direct current voltage from one polarity to another
which will create an alternating type of voltage at the output of a
transformer.
The RAW OUTPUT will likely have some very high peak spikes which could
damage
Intergrated circuits .
SO , the SAFETY of this type of Power source is DEPENDENT on the
designer and manufacturer SMOOTHING that voltage to make it safe
for things like computers and other electronic equipment.
If the description on the information says useable for electronics
you are probably OK ,
if it only says lights, etc , AND you value your electronics
do not use it to power them.
Have fun
Bob
