I've tried your trash extension and re-start.
I've also tried resetting.
I put in on charge all last night
I can't see it in Disk Utility to Mount, but I can see it in System
Profiler!
Whatever I do, screen still says "do not disconnect"

Hi Rosemary,
You could try: Open disk utility and see if you can mount the ipod
from there.
I found this in Apple discussions: trash the extension
"iPodDriver.kext" and restart your mac. The ipod was then able to
mount automatically.
This is the location of this extension:
/System/Library/Extensions/iPodDriver.kext
