Howdy,
Just finished installing the new Flash player per the security
bulletins around the place, and surprise (Not) - Safari 1.3.2 (v132.6)
running in 10.3.9, up to date - still will not display the content of
the macromedia's online Global settings panel movie,
So what is the web address for this. I have looked at the
Macromedia.com site and not found it yet !

although it will report that the player is running.
It doesn't appear to have been a security implementation from apple,
because the Macromedia control panel was accessable through both
Camino and Firefox (latest versions), from where I was able to attempt
to deny sites use of the whole Flash cookies "Global settings" setup.
So it is just another bit of esoterica for the nerds; I've given up
trying to work out Flash security.
In Safari, the Activity window showed an error in display of the
settings panel
"37 out of 38 items - 1 error"
and a dud security certificate
"bad server certificate" But since many sites return this message in
Safari, I don't use it for troubleshooting any more.
Gee I hope 10.4 has fixed this up.
And it might be about time that Macromedia gets a little more
recognition as the security clunker it is capable of being. In adobe
hands? Has anyone an opinion on Adobe's ethics?
I've long used the configuration settings in Camino and Firefox to
disable flash content on a page until I specifically call for it.
This makes some sites - Westnet's customer support pages are a good
example - almost unreadable because of all the Flash use for stuff
like headings and notes.
End rant. This isn't a plea for working out the settings for Safari
to display the preferences. There's better stuff for me to waste my
time on :-)
If it is a security issue (which it appears to be, since the flash
cookies preferences always revert to allowing third party cookies, no
matter what I do with the silly preferences thingy on the macromedia
site - using Camino) then I imagine that Apple will fix it up with
Adobe one day.
For those interested, here is a copy of the Macromedia user prefs that
always get reverted to, even when I try to deny all "LSO" cookies.
