Hi Severin
USB is not a practical format for use with video on the mac, as it
moves data in packets, and not as a constant stream. Most people find
that it is too slow. Great for cheaper backup, though.

What are the pros and cons of Firewire vs USB2 for external hard
drives, especially for digital video? I am currently entirely
Firewire but there are some good deals on big USB2 drives these days.
