Hi Rod, Thanks for the heads up on Image Capture. I'm still having a problem however:
A while back I'd had a few goes at getting my Canon CanoScan N1240U scanner to work with OSX but gave up and left it connected to my old machine & fired up Classic when I wanted to scan :( After your post, I thought I'd try Image Capture but no joy - help gave me a link to an apple page, which gave me a link to a canon page, which... A few pages later got me to: <http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=Downlo adDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=6621> Which was specific to my scanner and had a Drivers/Software link. So far so good - I downloaded: N1240U Scanner Driver Ver. 7.0.1.1X (Mac OS X) and CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 4.1.3.0X (Mac OS X) The first of these installed various things and gave me a plug-in (which get info told me was a photoshop elements plug-in) - I don't have an OSX version of Elements but I put a copy of the plug-in in the plug-in folder for Graphic converter and now "ScanGear CS 7.0.1X" appears under the GC Acquire command and I can scan from Graphic Converter :) The second gave me the CanoScan Toolbox application and, after putting a copy of the plug-in in its plug-in folder and linking the Scan1 command to Graphic Converter I can now scan from CanoScan Toolbox and send the scan to Graphic converter :) So now the scanner is obviously happily talking to the computer and I have two different ways of initiating a scan, with Graphic Converter handling the image. I can't, however, figure out how to get Image Capture to talk to the scanner: In the preferences, I've ticked the box for "When image capture is launched, open scanner window" Opening image capture just says "No image Capture device connected" I've tried initiating the scan from CanoScan Toolbox after linking the Scan2 command to Image Capture - the scanner scans, opens Image Capture and then the "No image Capture device connected" message comes up again. I figured I needed to put the plug-in in Image capture's plug-in folder - only I can't find one! Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy that I can now scan in OSX and I like Graphic Converter anyway...... It just seems that if one OSX application can access the scanner surely Image Capture should also be able to see it - & I DO like to know what's going on!! Any words of wisdom, suggestions gratefully received! TIA Neil -- Neil R.
