I like Ronni have been purchasing hardware, software & training from Daniel of "MacWizardry" for many years and would like to say I have had similar satisfaction from Daniel on service, advice & loyalty.
He exceeds customer expectations.

Yes WAMUGers, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Daniel Kerr of "MacWizardry". I have been purchasing from Daniel, computers, external harddrives, software, ipods, anything pertaining to 'The Macintosh way of life', ever since I purchased my first computer ... and that is a long time ;-)

Not only does Daniel supply everything at a very reasonable price, his support is unequalled to any other service I know.

Daniel also gives his time and knowledge FREE to our WAMUG Mailing list, and works tirelessly to keep WAMUG existing. I support Philippe & Greg in promoting our local business. Sure I can purchase cheaper elsewhere, but would I get the right advice, or the service Daniel gives ... NO WAY!

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Everyone,

I totally support Greg's message regarding Daniel of Macwizardry fame.
I too bought hardrives and laptops from Daniel, and the external
drives are with FW and USB and all three of them have been extremely
reliable, and so is the internal drive I have installed in my G5
1.8Ghz PPC.

Furthermore, I have installed OS X 10.5.7 on one of the external FW
drives from Daniel, and regularly boot my machine from this drive.
This means that I am able to keep my older applications running on
10.3.9 installed on one of my internal drives. That's the beauty of
FireWire!

I guess that it is now a question of 'use it or loose it', and that's
why I would promote the use of the local businesses. I know that one
may get something a tad cheaper interstate or overseas, but nothing
beats the local dealer whom you can call or email for some advice or
support.

Kind regards all,

Philippe Chaperon

Hello Ken

Talk to Daniel Kerr at Macwizardry. He sells the Sarotech brand of external
cases. I've had 5 of them and only one ever failed.

My 1TB is going strong.

They come in various configurations for USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and
SATA or all of the above.

You can remove the hard drive and fit another one too.

Daniel's details are ; 0414 795 960

Daniel is a great asset to the Perth Mac community and I have no hesitation
in recommending him.

Hi Ken

Can't help you with the firewire but awhile back I picked up a Doro VOIP +
landline cordless phone for my other half to chat with her friends
interstate via skype.
It is still available from Dealsdirect and is very easy to set up and use. As well as being able to use it for voip it doubles as a landline phone

Speaking of that..Hi everyone, can someone tell me where I might find a
1TB Firewire drive for a G5 running 104.11 please.
They all seem very expensive? Also has anyone experience with a Wireless
USB headset for Skype use?

regards all,

Ken

Hi Ronni and Sue

Thanks for the reply and its good to be back in the mix. It was kind of weird not having all the wamug emails daily and it only
twigged a short while ago!!

re the usb drives, I was amazed to see such a large drive being usb powered now. Im going to take my MB in tomorrow and just plug it in and see if I can drag a couple of files across. Not bad value at
under $200 for 500gb!!

thanks again

Just be aware that your enthusiasm may be curbed if you ever try to copy very large amounts of data at once (such as cloning your hard
drive!). USB 2.0 tends to choke and slow to a crawl under such
conditions. This is why a drive with a Firewire port, while more expensive, is a much better option. It is much better at sustaining
a transfer rate.

I certainly agree with Peter, I personally would not purchase a USB External Drive for backup purposes or transferring large Video files.
Firewire is faster and more stable.

Which makes it even more annoying that Apple is now pushing you more &
more
to USB:

- Want to plug a drive to an airport extreme for network access - it
has
to be USB.
- Macbooks no longer have firewire ports

Cheers
