Hi Merv,
sorry for the delay in my answer.
DVDxDVPro was originally written for the PC and the code was rewritten
to run under the Mac environment so it now runs natively on the Mac.
It is obvious through its non conventional interface.

Hi Eugene
Thank you for responding.
When you say DVDxDVPro is ported from Windows does this mean I must
use it in a Windows environment or will it work in Mac?
Merv
Hi Merv,
you need to convert the .VOB files to a format that is accessible
by iMovie.
I use DVDxDVPro. It is shareware and ported from Windows. Pretty
ugly implementation but it does work. The files are converted
to .mov format and imports straight into iMovie.
I'm not certain if Handbrake does this. I have used Handbrake to
convert and shrink .VOB files into MP4s for the iPod.
I would assume that if you save it as a large sized MP4 using
Handbrake it might work.
Once you import it into iMovies you can play around and edit it.
Then you can create a menu through iDVD.

Further to my earlier posting one of my troublesome DVD recordings
has the following folders:
VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS
The first has files: The second has files:
VIDEO_RM.BUP VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_RM.DAT VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_RM.IFO VTS_01_O.BUP
VTS_01_O.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
Neither the folders nor the files are accepted by iMovie or iDVD.
A search of forums suggests the use of Handbrake to convert to
mpeg or some other such format.
I would like to separate the episodes and edit out unwanted film
at the beginnings and ends, if iMovie will allow this after
achieving a codex from Handbrake that iMovie will accept, and
then burn the result on a new DVD that can be used on any DVD
player.
Is Handbrake likely to be the intermediate program that will allow
importing to iMovie.
This is all a new landscape for me.
Cheers
Merv

I have a combo VHS-DVD recorder connected to my TV set.
On a standard DVD-R I can record up to 4.7 GB. Most one-off
programs use less than half of the disk and if I don't "Finish"
the disk I can put on two programs - but then it won't "Finish"
the disk which means I can't play the DVD on any other DVD player.
If I "Finish" after recording the first program then that
prevents any further recording on the disk.
Is there a work around for this matter?
Suggestions appreciated.
Merv
