Have you run Software Update since the install?
Have you updated to Tiger OS X 10.4.11?
Have you repaired permissions?
If not Run Software Update ... if it doesn't show an update for Java,
go to this link to download the Java for Mac OS X 10.4, release 9:

i had allready ticked:
enable plug-ins
enable java
enable java script
i did a java version test in terminal & it says:
java version "1.4.2_07"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_07-215)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-50, mixed mode)
