Hi James,

You had quite a bit of updating of Java to do ;-)
Just to be sure you are uptodate now & everything is working correctly.

Click on this link: <http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm> “Can I See Java”

Click on this link to see what version of Java you have installed.

hi Ronni
yes i have 10.4.11
i repaired permission yesterday before backing up & software update says: software is "up to date"
trying to update with suggested file gives me:
Please run software update and install all previous Java updates before installing this upgrade.

running java142 update1 gives me:
you cannot install java142 update1, the volume does not contain a version of jave that needs updating

running java142 update2 gives me:
you cannot install java142 update2, the volume does not contain a version of jave that needs updating

running Java131and142Release2.dmg gives me a successfull install & update to:
java version "1.4.2_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_09-232)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-54, mixed mode)

running J2SE50Release4.dmg gives me a successfull install & update to:
java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-112)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-64, mixed mode)

after running release 5,6,7,8,9 i'm now on
java version "1.5.0_19"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_19- b02-306)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_19-138, mixed mode)

all updates can be found in:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/#java
!you have to do one update/upgrade after the other!!!!! especially after a reformat/reinstall

to see the java version go to terminal & type
java -version (enter)

now safari has nothing to complain about........

you may put this into the wamug archives in regards to java problems in tiger on ppc

thanks for your ideas
cheers James

Hi James,

Have you run Software Update since the install?
Have you updated to Tiger OS X 10.4.11?
Have you repaired permissions?

If not Run Software Update ... if it doesn't show an update for Java, go to this link to download the Java for Mac OS X 10.4, release 9: <http://support.apple.com/downloads/ Java_for_Mac_OS_X_10_4__Release_9>

hi guys
after reformatting, reinstalling tiger, reinstating all other software & docs on my powerbook g4 17"
safari says "java is unavailable or not installed"

listed in system profiler/application:
jar bundler
java 131 plugin settings
java 142 plugin settings
java preferences java webstart
java browser
are listed in system profiler/application

in system profiler/frameworks i found
java application launcher
java application launcher ui
java carbon support
java embedding
java script core
java script glue
java vm

also software that relies on jave do work

is there a java installer suitable for new install not just upgrade, my installer on the tiger disk does nothing to solve the problem
