Nikon's NEF files are RAW files, Nikon just uses a different name to
everyone else.

Thanks Ronda
I will try all this and get back to you. I have Elements 4, an older
version, maybe that could be part of the problem.

Hi John,
On re-reading your reply to Bill & Susan saying you can't get the
NEF files into Elements at all.
Have you downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe
Camera Raw?
You might need to update the Adobe RAW Plug-In to be able to open
NEF files.
You can check which version you have in Photoshop Elements, under
Photoshop Elements >About PlugIn>Camera Raw
Camera Raw 5.5 update 45.6MB 9/14/2009 is the latest version for
PE 6.
Important: Click on the its title and Read the Installation
Instructions:
You can get it here:

Hi John,
Follow the instructions at the bottom of this page: "How to Open
NEF Files in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0":
NB. You cannot save as a NEF file, save as jpg, png or tiff.

Hi Bill and Susan
I tried the option Bill suggested but I can't get the NEF files
into Elements at all.
The only Bibble Labs software I could find
is $89.
Re the Adobe software, I can't get that to work either, maybe I'm
not operating it correctly but I have spent many hours trying..
I notice that my raw files are 10MB and jpegs are 6MB so perhaps
6MB is enough. Any thoughts?

John,
I use Photoshop Elements ( version 6) to convert NIKON RAW (NEF)
s. Just go into PE and Command O, select file and you'll get
a pre-processing option wherein you can do some basic
manipulation like exposure, colour temp etc. Otherwise Bibble
Labs offers a free product (which is easier to use then PE).

Hi Wamuggers
Does anyone know of a Mac program available to convert the
Nikon NEF (RAW) files to ordinary RAW. It seems that iPhoto
will read them but not Photoshop Elements.
Cheers
