Hi all
I think most keen amateurs shoot in raw and then either convert to
tiff or jpeg in Photoshop or in the software supplied with the camera.
iphoto accepts raw from any camera but each brand has its own raw
format.
So maybe we'd better start up a photo group to avoid being off topic
much longer.
Cheers
John

Sorry to slightly go off-topic but it is amazing to compare a newer

the changes in quality are huge!
Can really see how compression seems to have developed over the last
10/15 years. As a result my friend now shoots in RAW alone on that
camera.

As others have said, its way simpler to take out the CF or SD card
from your camera and upload the photos using a card reader.
RAW files from new cameras are sometimes not immediately compatible
with Snow Leopard, but there's normally only a short period when
you might have to stick with JPEG photos before an update from
Apple. JPEGs are always compatible.

Advice appreciated

I have yet to see a digital camera which has not been "Mac
compatible". While it may be true occasionally that the supplied
software with the camera may be Windows-only, every single one I
have used has been recognised automatically by iPhoto. The main
reason for this would seem to be that the camera itself tends to
regarded by Mac OS X as nothing more than a card reader (albeit an
elaborate one!). In this respect the Mac is dealing with the
camera's memory card more or less directly, not the camera itself.
Of course, if you want to bypass iPhoto and use the software
supplied by the camera manufacturer, that's a different issue:
there may well be compatibility issues there.
Just out of interest, my Pentax K100 SLR works perfectly, and the
Pentax software is all Mac compatible. I just don't use it.
