Hi Malcolm,

I had a quick look on the MacRumours forums and they suggested a hard reset of 
the iPod Touch. Here are instructions for a hard reset:

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten 
seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
